Family Renewal Shelter - About FRS

Shannon's Story:

A few months ago on her last day at FRS I was “confronted” by a resident in the parking lot as she was leaving. She said, “I want to write you a letter about this shelter.” I said “0k, please do.” With her permission it is reprinted.

Dear Family Renewal Shelter,

I am “Shannon Smith”, a former client, writing to thank you for all your help. Every one of the staff has been so helpful and considerate.

I can’t believe how much you do for all the people who enter your program. As my daughter and I were leaving to our new place you guys packed groceries, bathroom supplies, tooth paste and shampoo and told me to make a list of anything else I might need, and even told us to call at Christmas time for more stuff. What could top all of this? Telling me that I could call anytime if I ever needed to talk or needed anything else, that I’m welcome to do so.

When I first entered the program, I was depressed. But just being there, and keeping a good schedule and doing my chores I forgot about being sad. The volunteers are so helpful. I’ve enjoyed meeting all of them. They were all so nice, considerate, polite, and sympathetic to my daughter and me. I appreciate that because my own real family would have put me down for no reason at all.
